Wintrust 2022 Corporate Social Responsibility Report Illustrations
We partnered with Ideas on Purpose to create a series of illustrations for Wintrust’s 2022 Corporate Social Responsibility Report. As a financial services company based in Rosemont, Illinois, the client was looking for an illustration style that was playful, graphically simple, and representative of the diverse communities that they serve. The scope of work included a set of characters that capture a variety of people in all stages of life, as well as 6 full-scene illustrations that metaphorically convey the essence of each of their report’s sections.
Client: Wintrust
Agency: Ideas on Purpose
Illustration: Down the Street
CHARACTER SET
We developed a set of characters that represent the diverse communities whom Wintrust serves. The characters vary in age, ethnic background, and profession, and also include families, pets, and folks with disabilities. The illustration style is geometric and colorful with subtle shading, and uses details to infuse the characters with distinct personalities. The main goal in developing each character was to highlight their passions, whether it be yoga, baking, or simply serving the community as a school crossing guard.
FULL-SCENE ILLUSTRATIONS
We illustrated six full-scene illustrations for each of the report’s sections. We designed some of the scenes to convey ideas metaphorically, such as having a lemonade stand for “Furthering Financial Health” or illustrating a diverse group of people working on a jigsaw puzzle for “Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.”
IN-REPORT APPLICATION
Below are some pages from the report, with full-scene illustrations used as accompanying visuals for section introductions.
STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS
Each illustration underwent a gradual process that kept the project smooth and wrinkle-free. Below are some examples of how we take the illustration from pencil sketch, to greyscale vector, and finally to color & shading. This step-by-step process helps the client know what to expect in the final illustration and allows for feedback at every stage.
