ESPN: Realignment Interactive Illustrations
We partnered with ESPN to create illustrated assets for their interactive storytelling experience Realignment: The Past, Present and Future Battle for College Football Supremacy. Styled as a strategy-genre board game, the interactive experience takes the viewer on a historical journey to witness how college football conferences fight to acquire teams over the years. We were tasked with illustrating isometric board game pieces that represent each school, as well as the cover artwork for the interactive.

The Experience
As you scroll through ESPN’s interactive experience, their talented team created an immersive and animated narrative that leads the viewer through the timeline of college football conferences and changes, all on an interactive game board.
The lede artwork needed to evoke boardgame box art—something dynamic and also telling what’s inside. For this scene, we designed the game board atop a football stadium. The panoramic warping of the horizon adds a dramatic effect.
Sketches
Every isometric piece had to be sketched out to ensure that each object was recognizable and fit squarely on the game board.
