Block: Community Voices

We partnered with Block to provide illustration support for “Community Voices”, an Instagram content series that spotlights members of Block’s Employee Community Groups. The illustrations helped to highlight the story of API-Blocks community co-chair Cyrille Villaflores, and her journey being mentored by peers in the API community. We were given creative freedom to bridge Filipino heritage and Bay Area company culture in whimsical ways.

Below are some illustrations that accompanied the narrative. Each illustration corresponded to a pull quote from an interview with the subject. Using bold colors and exaggerated shapes, we aimed to evoke a feeling that was confident, authentic, and wholesome, but also pulled from the festive nature of Filipino-American culture.

The cover illustration (above) includes visual elements from the story, as well as elements quintessential to the Filipino-American community.
